How does it work? Simply break the light beam with your hand, body, or other object to toggle a device on or off, including lamps, fans, and other consumer electronics. The wired remote control provides an alternative method to control the device with the press of a button.

What’s a real-world example of this kit in action? The founders of Industrial Sensor Corporation use this kit in their home to control a lamp that’s in the corner of a room and difficult to reach, especially in the dark. They installed the kit’s retroreflective sensor at the entrance of the room, above head height, so they can simply wave their hand when entering or leaving the room to break the sensor’s light beam, causing the lamp to turn on or off. The wired remote control was installed near a couch so someone that’s snoozing can turn the lamp off without getting up.

TRITON Switch Controller

The TRITON Switch Controller is used for automating homes, offices, and factories. It features a high-power AC relay controlled by two 24 VDC inputs, implementing a toggle function upon activation of either input.

The 24 VDC inputs are compatible with industry-standard sensors, such as water level sensors, through-beam sensors, proximity sensors, magnetic sensors, and temperature sensors. Remote controls can be used in place of sensors for manual operation, if desired. The TRITON Switch Controller supports both indoor and outdoor operation, and is designed specifically for harsh environments, such as factories and industrial sites.

The TRITON Switch Controller features a 5 A steady-state output rating (600 Watts at 120 VAC and 1,200 Watts at 240 VAC) and can withstand current surges up to 30 A, making it ideal for powering resistive and inductive loads that require high in-rush currents such as fans, lightbulbs, motors, pumps, and consumer electronics. An active snubber circuit is used to contain inductive kickbacks from switched loads (i.e., voltage spikes that can reach thousands of volts and damage unprotected relays), particularly from motors, pumps, and fans. Internal fuses protect both the input and output of the TRITON Switch Controller.

The 24 VDC inputs are compatible with PNP-type sensors that are commonly found in industrial settings and factories. The TRITON Switch Controller is capable of suppling up to 200 mA of current through its M12-5 A-coded connectors to sensors or manual remote controls. The device features short-circuit protection and can withstand faults of infinite duration. Internal circuitry protects the 24 VDC input ports from electrostatic discharge and over/under voltage faults.

TRITON Retroreflective Sensor

Retroreflective Sensor for the TRITON Switch Controller. Available in three cable lengths: 16.4 feet, 23.0 feet, and 39.4 feet. Includes photoelectric sensor, retroreflector, and mounting bracket. Sensor is Panasonic P/N: CX-493-P with added M12-4 cable.

Photoelectric sensor. Features a five-meter (16.4 ft) sensing range and red LED-type beam that is easy to align. Ideal for sensing across wide doors and other areas that require up to five meters of coverage.

Retroreflector. Clear retroreflector measuring 59.3 mm x 50.3 mm x 8.3 mm (2.3" x 2.0" x 0.3"). Features two 4.6 mm (0.181") diameter mounting holes. Mounting screws to user surface not included.

TRITON Remote Control

Remote Control for the manual operation of the TRITON Switch Controller. Available in three cable lengths: 9.8 feet, 16.4 feet, and 32.8 feet.

The Remote Control uses an unshielded cable with an integral M12-4 A-coded male receptacle that mates with TRITON Switch Controllers' M12-5 A-coded female sockets. When mated, the connection is rated to IP65/IP67/IP68 - dust tight and water resistant.

The Remote Control is constructed from rugged ABS plastic and measures 54.0 mm x 34.9 mm x 14.7 mm (2.1" x 1.4" x 0.6"). It uses a single-pole single-throw (SPST) normally-open momentary-closed (NOMC) push-button switch that is UL & CSA recognized. The button is encapsulated in a protective rubber boot for resistance to dust and water spray.
